|Program:||“A Swede Seeks His Fortune in Alaska: My Grandfather’s Adventure”|
Monta Lee Dakin
Monta Lee writes: “I grew up hearing that my Granddad had delivered mail in Alaska by dogsled. Yeah sure, we always said. Until I found a photo of him with dogs. That led to a trip to Alaska to see what more I could find out about this guy who left everyone behind in a small town in southwestern Sweden called Älmeboda to seek his fortune in a place surrounded by soaring mountains in Alaska.”
Ron Floberg will also give a short program on what the 1950 census reveals about a small Swedish-American community.
Don’t forget about the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival in Estes Park, June 24-26. SGSC will be there, stop by and say “hej”.
