Program | “Run for the Cellar” – Swedes in the Omaha 1913 Easter Tornado |
Presenter | Linda Wyman, SGSC Member |
Before 1913, Omaha was thought to be “tornado proof.” That changed on Easter Sunday when the most destructive tornado to date ripped through the city taking lives, homes, schools and churches. Were Swedes affected by this event? You betcha! Who were they? Where did they live in relation to the devastation? How did they contribute to the rebuilding of the city? What are some of their stories? What began with bedtime stories to a little girl has blossomed into a need to know “the rest of the story” and that’s what Linda succeeded in discovering.
