Karen’s family had what appeared to be credible research showing that they were descended from Johan Hultman, a noted member of King Karl XII’s court. From a Facebook tip, Karen learned that there was good reason to question the previous research. Using negative evidence in estate inventories, Karen confirmed that Johan Hultman was indeed NOT her ancestor. Then began the hard part – if not Johan, then who? The hunt was complicated by a rare instance of a parish with burned and missing records.
